Interview with Derek & Alex from Take 2, A book by Linda Bolton
Today we have a couple of people that deserve to be together,
they are Alexandra & Derek from Linda Bolton’s book “Take 2” They have had
so many issues within and around their relationship, that the book kept me up
all night long so I could finish it, I am pleased to say that they have their
happy ending & they deserve that happiness.
Me, “Thank you for joining us today Derek & Alex, I have closed the curtains and turned the
phone off, I know you are very popular Derek and you need a break from it all,
I have not told anyone you were coming, so we should be able to continue all
the way through until the end of the interview, Shall we get started?”
We’re ready, Julie, let’s do this.
Me, “Please take a seat or would you rather leave the table
and go and sit on the couch? Much better for comfort and I don’t mind if you
want to snuggle up with each other, I see you can’t keep your hands of each
other”
Derek: The couch would be great. I have to travel so much I
hate being far from her.
Alex: That Scottish brogue gets me every time. I hope we can
behave ourselves!
Me, “Would you like a drink? I have a fully stocked fridge or
I have just made tea, but also have a fresh coffee pot on the go if you
prefer?”
Both: Coffee!
Me, “So, How are things with the both of you? I bet your
still so happy, You both look like your glowing, especially you Alex”
Alex: I have never been happier. I won’t say dealing with the
fans and paparazzi isn’t hard, but we have made it work.
Derek: I never thought being with one woman could make me
feel so complete. I know this sounds terribly unmanly, but I’ve been waiting
along time for this.
Me, “I loved how Linda wrote about you both in the book, she
was very descriptive about where you went, Did you take photo’s of all the
places you visited, Could you show me some?”
Alex: Of course. I was never sure if I’d get a chance to
visit them again. Here’s Scotland - Edinburg, Glasgow, Oh, this is the
highlands and Derek’s mom’s home. Here’s Vegas, the view from Derek’s apartment
in New York - I just love Manhattan. Derek, honey, grab your phone. I know you
have a few photos from your guy trips.
Derek: Oh yeah, here’s the Island of Dominica - Its so lush
there. Do you remember when we went skinny dipping here, It was so much fun, *wiggles eyebrows*
And here’s Iceland. Great camping! Remember how we kept ourselves warm.
Me, “What do you do to relax?”
Derek: Travel! I love traveling and I love taking Alex with
me. Its so fun watching her see places for the first time. Sometimes my senses
get dulled - I go to the beach, a nice
restaurant - I forget about the architecture, the history. Its all very new to
her. *kisses her on the cheek*
Alex: *giggle* Derek! We do normal things to. Sometimes we
visit my daughter in Dallas and her new husband. We sit by the fireplace and
snuggle.
Me, “My heart was in my throat when you got kidnapped Derek,
I can only imagine the trauma that it has left with you, Do you take on films
that are based in places where there is a possibility of that happening again,
or has Alex laid down the law and banned you from them?”
Derek: I ask about security more now. I don’t want to have
Alex worrying about me. Since then, the community is trying to stray farther
away from those areas of unrest.
Me, “how do you celebrate you birthdays? Please tell me you
spend it together.”
Both: We try *laughing*.
Alex: I travel to where he is if that is possible. So far it
has been. Other special dates we make sure we are together too.
Derek: The first time I told her I loved her. That’s a biggy,
for both of us. I try to find something special for us to see or do for that
celebration. A bubble bath for two, champagne, things like that.
Me, “What film are you working on now Derek?”
Derek: I have a special project very dear to my heart - the
life of Robert Burns, the Scottish poet. I’m searching for the right
screenplay. And I have my own production company now so we’re looking for
projects. Alex reads through some to help out. She has a great eye *winking at
her*. *She smiles shyly and blushes*
Me, “When will you be retiring and living the rest of your
days with the beautiful Alex? Where would you retire to?”
Derek: Not sure I will ever totally retire. With the
production company I can stay home more but I think at some point we’ve decided
to settle in Scotland. We’ll keep the Manhattan apartment for vacations - kind
of a stateside home base.
Me, “Are you with him on set Alex? Is it fun or do you get
bored?”
Alex: I have been to many of his sets and I try to go out
often. I find it interesting but dull too. Retakes are retakes. You can only
see so many and you can’t help but be bored. I usually watch a few hours each
day and then go sightseeing or shopping. I’m still not recognised when I’m
alone. Then if I find an interesting place I take Derek back there during his
down time.
Me, “What is your favourite thing to do in the whole world?”
Alex: Have time alone with each other, no phones, no TV, just
the two of us.
Derek: I agree. We don’t have that quiet time as often as
we’d like. That is the best. *reaches over with his free hand and squeezes
hers*
Me, “So what do you spend your time doing Alex, when Derek is
off doing interviews?”
Alex: If I don’t go with him I’ll go to Dallas to spend time
with my daughter and see a few friends. If I tag along, I wait for him to
return to our room, have the hot tub going and give him a massage. Interviews
make him very tight.
Me, “Do you ever feel jealous with all the female attention
Derek gets?”
Alex: I trust him but those other women do get under my skin
some. I am human. But I know he loves me and most of them just want a photo
with him. I couldn’t deny them that. Look at him! I love photos of him too.
Me, “Do you ever get any trouble from Tristen? That man gave
me the creeps”
Derek: No, thank goodness. I don’t know what I was thinking.
Alex: I don’t know why I went along with it. We were crazy.
Me, “Do you have any guilty pleasures?”
Derek: I love chocolate - anything chocolate. Alex has to
hide things from me. Its terrible. Cupcakes are a huge weakness.
Alex: I love to buy shoes. Aren’t these cute *showing a
strappy 4inch heel*? I filled up the spare closet. *looking a bit sheepish as
Derek gives that “look*
Me, Oh, they are adorable
Me, “How are Mattie & Nathan getting on? Is he home from
Afghanistan yet? Are you going to be grandparents yet?”
Alex: He’s been back on leave. We try to visit when he’s
there. I go back quite a bit when she’s alone. He should be home in the coming
months, permanently. Then I hope babies are in the near future. I think we are
both ready.
Derek: I love kids. I can’t wait for the grandchildren. Love
to spoil.
Me, “What are your plans for the future? Will you be getting
married? Oops is that something you haven’t discussed?”
Derek: We’ve talked about it. That’s all I can say for now.
Me, “Where has Derek taken you so far Alex? Have you been
around the world yet?”
Alex:Lets see...besides Scotland, New York, LA, Las Vegas, he
met me in Haiti, we went to Chile for vacation after his surfing accident, I
met the reporter in Italy - she won’t be coming around anymore (elbowing
Derek), and I’ve been to Cannes Film Festival. We are planning a trip to Greece
and Portugal in a few months. Maybe you’ll hear some news about us there. *winking!*

Summary: Alexandra Daniels is a forty-something,
hard-working mom, wife and employee. Her life has been plodding along at a
snails pace and she’s longing for excitement. She wins a trip to her favorite
talk show in New York, the Veronica Becker Show, and it just so happens the
actor of her dreams is a guest, Derek Dunbar! Is Alex’s life about to change?
Derek Dunbar is Scottish, an actor and a hunk! Every woman
in America drools after him. He has his pick of women but stinks at
relationships. At forty, is he longing for a more meaningful relationship? Does
he even know how to have one? Is he willing to make the effort or will it just
be too complicated?
THE CHARACTERS
Alexandra Daniels spent half her life as a dedicated wife
and mother. Recently, with her husband working so much he spent little time
with her and her daughter all grown up, Alex finally decided to concentrate on
herself. She got a gym membership, lost weight, and spent her free time at
night catching up on years of movies she missed. To add to her newly found
identity, Alex wins a trip to New York to see her favorite talk show taped.
While there she meets her movie idle, Derek Dunbar. Can life get any better?
Derek Dunbar went to school to be a lawyer, something his
mother loved to brag about. But Derek felt he had another calling: acting. Once
he submerged himself into his new career he was destined for stardom...and
loneliness. Oh, Derek had the looks, but his work-a-holic mentality made dating
difficult, not to mention the
paparazzi that followed him everywhere.
